As Senior Manager, Development and Partnerships, Shelly expands Equalize Health’s development capacity by engaging stakeholders and introducing new audiences to Equalize Health through creative communication and storytelling. She also drives development initiatives through grant writing and donor management. Shelly holds an M.P.A. from the University of San Francisco (USF) and a B.S. from Ithaca College and has over 10 years of experience in the fields of international education and non-governmental organizations. Prior to Equalize Health, she consulted for international organizations in East Africa, partnering with large NGOs and grassroots organizations to help them better understand and maximize their social impact. In a past iteration of her life, Shelly was a documentary film producer and editor specializing in films that gave voice to marginalized communities.
It was the juxtaposition of encountering under-resourced healthcare facilities in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, Malawi and giving birth to her own daughter in a world-class San Francisco hospital, that compelled Shelly to dedicate her energies toward supporting mothers and newborn health in resource-constrained areas. When Shelly isn’t writing about Equalize Health’s next great project, she enjoys traveling to near and far off places, singing, playing piano, and hiking the beautiful landscapes of Northern California.
